Hives or Urticaria
What is urticaria?
Urticaria is a common condition where itchy pink or white raised areas appear anywhere on the skin. They move around, so an individual wheal is not present at the same site 24hours later, and they do not leave a residual mark.
What is the cause of urticaria?
In most cases, without any identifiable trigger or sometimes secondary to a trigger, there is release of histamine from skin cells called mast cells.
What is the treatment of urticaria?
A combination of medications can help control the condition and the symptoms, until it eventually burns itself out.
