Liposuction is a surgical technique which is used to remove excessive fat deposits in an area of the body leaving only minimal scarring.
Liposuction is a technique to lose weight but is useful tool in body sculpting in individuals who have tried to lose the excess fat in certain body areas by means of exercise and dieting.
The areas where liposuction maybe useful are the hips, flanks, arms, thighs and tummy. It is sometimes useful in reducing the size of the breasts. The area to treated is marked prior to the surgery. The procedure is carried out under a general anesthetic. A diluted solution of local anesthetic is injected into the skin and small incisions (5 – 7mm in length) are made at inconspicuous locations around the area. A metal tube, called a cannula, is inserted into the tissues and the excess fat is suctioned with the aid of a strong vacuum pump.
